Our History

Pine Mountain General Baptist Church has deep roots in the Damascus community. The church was first organized in the 1880s and officially recognized as a member of the Post Oak Grove Association in 1889. The first church building stood about a mile south of where the church is today. It was later moved to the site of what is now Pine Mountain Cemetery, where it sadly burned in the late 1800s.

In 1927, the Methodist and General Baptist congregations began holding alternating weekly services in the schoolhouse beside our current location. When the Methodists moved to Damascus in 1949 to build their own church, Pine Mountain continued to meet faithfully.

In 1951, the old schoolhouse was torn down, and a new church building was constructed on the same site where we still gather today. Over the years, many names and faces have come and gone, but one thing has never changed: the leadership of our church. It has always belonged to God.
